Resources for PPE
As you’re well aware, the global supply chain for Personal Protective Equipment has been disrupted. There are limited supplies available of items like masks, gloves, and gowns.
For those who are in search of specific items, we want to make sure you are aware of the following resources:
TRUSTED SOURCE:
To get authentic supplies, you should go to a trusted distributor, starting with your current dental supplier. Even if you checked in with your representative there a couple weeks ago and didn’t find what you need, keep checking back and ask them when they get their stock refreshed so you know when to try again.
A Word of Caution: It is especially important at this time to avoid counterfeit/gray market supplies that may not provide the advertised level of protection. VDA Services Endorsed Vendor TDSC held a webinar on spotting counterfeit products.
LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
If you aren’t able to find what you need in the time you need it from your current distributor, you should check with your local health district to see if they have supplies that they can share with you.
VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES
The Virginia Department of General Services is also keeping an updated list of PPE and supply vendors as a resource for state agencies. They are not endorsing or recommending these vendors, so due diligence is required on your part, but they are another resource to consider to fulfill your needs for PPE and supplies.
AMAZON BUSINESS
The Virginia Emergency Support Team (VEST) has coordinated with Amazon to ensure organizations on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response in the Commonwealth can purchase critically needed personal protective equipment (PPE) through Amazon Business on a prioritized basis. This opportunity is available to hospitals, health clinics, doctor’s offices, and other medical care providers. In order to participate in this program, you must create an account with Amazon Business.
VA MANUFACTURER'S ASSOCIATION/MCLUNG
The Virginia Manufacturer’s Association has partnered with Virginia businesses to create a website that serves as a clearinghouse for businesses seeking PPE.
OTHER RESOURCES:
- Sterilizing PPE – Virginia is receiving three Battelle Critical Care Decontamination Systems™ (CCDS) that can collectively sterilize up to 240,000 units of personal protective equipment (PPE) per day for reuse. The three systems will be operational in the Town of Blacksburg, the City of Newport News, and Chesterfield County. More Info.
- Respirator Fit Testing Guidance – OSHA has issued temporary enforcement guidance for respirator fit testing. Dentists should become familiar with the current protocols. We’ve included some advice on where to possibly find fit testing services and kits as well as an overview of what is involved in these evaluations.

LOOKING AHEAD
The VDA continues to work with FEMA, the Commonwealth of Virginia and private industry partners to find all options available for trusted PPE. Please continue to check the COVID-19 HUB for new information as it becomes available.
